  6.                 Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 0.01

  8. 1. Please press the D/V button and turn on the Elite 2864I to do a
  9.    hardware reset on the modem and have the modem load in the factory
  10.    default settings.
  11. 2. Please refer to the 2864I series ISDN modem user's manual for
  12.    explanation of the power on self-test.
  13. 3. Use ATI1 to check the ISDN modem's firmware version. Firmware version
  14.    0.xx is used for ß-test. The formal commercial version will start
  15.    from version 1.00. ATI1 will also show the version of the internal
  16.    fax/modem, which has the same definition (and the same features) as
  17.    the firmware version of the Elite 2864 V.34 modem. For this ß-version
  18.    (Ver 0.01) the internal fax/modem is not included. It will be added
  19.    into the Elite 2864I in the next version (Ver 0.02).
  20. 4. If the D-channel signaling protocol installed in your sample(s) does
  21.    not fit your ISDN switch you can upload the proper firmware into your
  22.    samples' flash EPROM. There are three files for this version:
  23.         E2864IE.001 .... European ISDN (DSS1)
  24.         E2864IG.001 .... German ISDN (1TR6)
  25.         E2864IA.001 .... North America ISDN (NI-1,AT&T 5ESS, and NT
  26.                          DMS-100)
  27.    Please refer to Chapter 3 of the user's manual for procedures of
  28.    uploading the firmware.
  29. 5. There are four on-line help commands that you are recommended to try
  30.    first:
  31.         AT$, AT&$, AT*$, and ATS$
  32. 6. The Embedded Protocol Analyzer (EPA) can be a very powerful tool for
  33.    ß-testers to record and report the test result. Please refer to
  34.    Chapter 12 of the user's manual.
  35. 7. We have just implemented the feature-phone functions to the a/b
  36.    adaptor. Please check if they work well.
  37. 8. The data encryption function is also new in this version. Please
  38.    refer to Chapter 14 of the user's manual for detailed information.
  39.    You can send short plain-text packets and use the EPA to capture the
  40.    B-channel's cipher-text to see the effect of the encryption. Both
  41.    manually entered key or automatic session key can be used.
  42. 9. The dual TEI capability required by the NT DMS-100 will be added in
  43.    the next version (Ver 0.02). Also we have not stored the SPID into
  44.    the NVRAM so you may have to key-in the SPID every time when you turn
  45.    on the Elite 2864I.
  46. 10.The channel bundling protocol now implemented is X.75 MLP (TELES
  47.    compatible). We are working on the cFOS Channel Bundling and hoping
  48.    that we can include it in version 0.03.
  49. 11.For the B-channle protocols, in addition to the V.120, V.110, and
  50.    X.75, we have added the PPP async-to-sync HDLC conversion as well as
  51.    the SLIP to sync HDLC conversion. These protocols are useful for the
  52.    LAN/Internet applications. Please refer to Chapter 8 of the user's
  53.    manual.

  55. 12.If you are running at 460.8K bps DTE speed, please make sure you are
  56.    using the 486DX 66MHz(or faster) machine and the Procom-Plus(or a
  57.    more efficient one) communication program. The Smartdrv function must
  58.    be enabled. A simple way to isolate the fault if you have too many
  59.    CRC error indications during file transfer is to use the V.42bis. Any
  60.    error occurred below the link layer will likely cause the ISDN modem
  61.    to blow out. If the ISDN modem is still alive and there are CRC
  62.    errors, the DTE interface or the Computer may have some speed
  63.    problem.
  64. 13.AT&T1 (ISDN loopback test) and AT&T8 (ISDN loopback with self-test)
  65.    can be used for quick evaluation of the B-channel protocols as well
  66.    as the hardware. Only V.110, V.120, and X.75 can be tested. Data
  67.    encryption, V.42bis, and/or channel bundling can be enabled in these
  68.    tests whenever applicable.

  73.                 Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 0.02

  75. 1. The internal fax/modem has been integrated into the Elite 2864I's
  76.    firmware. This includes G3 fax, V.32bis, ZyXEL 19200 as well as V.34
  77.    modem. Please test these functions in the DTE channel 0 (AT&O0).
  78.    We are porting the voice mode on the Elite 2864I. Don't issue any
  79.    voice command now !
  80. 2. The SPID (for North America ISDN) assigned via the AT command
  81.    ATSPIDn=xxxx is stored in the NVRAM. When power-on the Elite 2864I,
  82.    it will automatically handshake with the switch for TEI assignment.
  83. 3. The AT&Dn and AT&Sn commands have been implemented.
  84. 4. The AT&Vn command has been revised. Please use AT&$ command to view
  85.    the new definition of this command.
  86. 5. Remove the ISDN line before using AT&T1 (ISDN loopback test) or AT&T8
  87.    (ISDN loopback with self-test). We found that during these tests
  88.    there will be B-channel data leakage to the S/T interface. We are
  89.    trying to fix this problem.
  90. 6. We failed to include the dual TEI function in this version. Please
  91.    wait for the next version (0.03).

  98. 1. Fixed the bugs of ATZ and AT&Ln.
  99. 2. Dual TEI function has been implemented for the Northern Telecom ISDN
  100.    DMS-100 so that two B channels can be used simultaneously.
  101. 3. Fixed the bug of the internal fax/modem of American version where an
  102.    incoming call can not be answered.
  103. 4. The output power of the the a/b adapter was too high in the previous
  104.    versions. We changed the output power to the correct level.
  105. 5. A new V.34 firmware with better performance has been included in
  106.    this version.
  107. 6. For north America ISDN, the LNK LED will light up after power-on
  108.    when the SPID registration is finished and the link connection is
  109.    established between the ISDN modem and the Central Office.

  115. 1. The a/b adapter (analog telephone port) can accept both pulse dial as
  116.    well as DTMF tone dial. The only exception is that when the built-in
  117.    fax/modem is running, only pulse dial is possible.
  118. 2. The metering pulse function of the a/b adapter has been implemented
  119.    for 1TR6 (German national ISDN). Use
  120.    ATS102.6=1   to enable the metering pulse function;
  121.    ATS102.6=0   to disable the metering pulse function.
  122. 3. The outgoing Low-Layer-Compatibility information element can be
  123.    turned on or off as follows:
  124.    ATS115.4=0         Disable outgoing Low-Layer-Compatibility (default)
  125.    ATS115.4=1         Enable outgoing  Low-Layer-Compatibility
  126. 4. The own number assignment command has been modified such that only
  127.    one number-subaddress pair can be assigned to each DTE channel. The
  128.    old command was
  129.         AT&ZOn=s    , n=0,1
  130.    the new one is
  131.         AT&ZO=s
  132. 5. For DSS1 and North America ISDN, the Multiple Subscriber Number (MSN)
  133.    supplementary service provides the possibility for assigning multiple
  134.    ISDN numbers to a single ISDN BRI line, that allows a calling user to
  135.    select, via the public network, one or multiple distinct terminals
  136.    out of multiple choices. Since the Elite 2864I is a highly
  137.    integrated multi-function ISDN modem, it  can be imagined as a black
  138.    box that contains multiple distinct terminals. Each of these
  139.    "internal terminals" can be assigned one ISDN number using the
  140.    following command:
  141.         AT&ZIn=s  n=0-7    
  142.                 &ZI0     assign the MSN for X.75;
  143.                 &ZI1     assign the MSN for V.110;
  144.                 &ZI2     assign the MSN for V.120;
  145.                 &ZI3     assign the MSN for PPP async to sync HDLC;
  146.                 &ZI4     assign the MSN for SLIP to sync HDLC;
  147.                 &ZI6     assign the MSN for internal fax/modem;
  148.                 &ZI7    assign the MSN for the a/b adapter.
  149.    AT&ZI? can be used to display the MSN numbers assigned by the
  150.    AT&ZIn=s commands. The factory default for these numbers are
  151.    UNASSIGNED.
  152.    If an incoming SETUP message is offered with addressing information
  153.    (i.e.  the appropriate part of the called party number), this address
  154.    will be compared with the MSN numbers assigned by the the AT&ZIn=s
  155.    commands. The call will be accepted using the specific protocol if
  156.    the assigned number of this protocol matches with the received called
  157.    party number.
  158.    Note : Two phone number strings are said to be matched if their least
  159.    significant "n" digit(s) are identical, where "n" is the number of
  160.    digit of the shorter string. Usually one digit is enough to
  161.    distinguish the various protocols.
  162. 6. Called-Party-Subaddress information of the incoming SETUP message is
  163.    not used by the Elite 2864I to select the protocols or services. The
  164.    Elite 2864I just indicates the subaddress (if any) to the DTE.
  165. 7. Each phone number of the destination BRI line can be called only once
  166.    at a time for the Northern Telecom ISDN. In order to use two B
  167.    channels for channel bundling, we must place two calls with different
  168.    phone numbers. Thus we implemented the command
  169.         ATDnumber_1+number_2
  170.    where number_1 and number_2 are two phone numbers of the same ISDN
  171.    BRI line.
  172. 8. The reset problem of the ATZ command has been fixed.
  173. 9. In case the ATC$ command (to view captured message of the EPA) has no
  174.    effect, please try to issue ATH first and then ATC$. We are working
  175.    on this bug.
  176. 10.The command ATI2 has been implemented, it will indicate the
  177.    disconnect reason of the last call.
  178. 11.For the Elite 2864 (the V.34 modem), there are four user profiles.
  179.    But for the Elite 2864I (the ISDN modem), because there are four DTE
  180.    channels in the Elite 2864I, each has its own configuration, the same
  181.    NVRAM space can only afford ONE user profile for each DTE channel.
  182.    Please use the on-line-help commands AT&$ and AT$ to see the
  183.    definitions of the commands that are pertinent to the user profile:
  184.         AT&Vn, AT&W, AT&F, ATZn
  185. 12.The V.120 data compression (V.42bis) of the Elite 2864I now follows
  186.    the "Annex C to Rec. V.120", which is a proposal from IBM that
  187.    defines the procedures of request and parameter negotiation of
  188.    V.42bis over V.120 by means of exchanging XID frames.
  189. 13.The lattest version of the Elite 2864I user's manual is Rev. 1.1.
  190. 14.The problem of class 2 fax has been fixed. Please try it under DTE
  191.    channel 0 (AT&ZO0, for internal fax/modem).

  198. 1. For 1TR6, the outgoing service indicator and default value is correct,
  199.    so internal modem connection work.
  200. 2. MDM LED is correctly handled.
  201. 3. For North America ISDN, LNK LED is correctly handled during SPID
  202.    management procedure. Fix some bugs of connection.
  203. 4. Fixed the bugs of ATZ.
  204. 5. After you download the Version 1.00 or 1.01, please first check the MSN
  205.    of each service by AT&ZI?. If the number is not correct or is some
  206.    garbage, it is necessary to enter correct number (AT&ZIn=xxxxxx) or
  207.    empty it (AT&ZIn=). This issue is very important for the first time to
  208.    accept incoming call.

  219. 3. "BUSY" and "No Answer" indications have been inplemented.
  220. 4. the command ATCN and ATCI have been implemented.
  221. 5. Ring indication has normalized, S7 has been inplemented.
  222. 6. These two bytes <cr><lf> of AT&V,AT$,ATC$ has been swapped.
  223. 7. Fixed the bug that DTR off can not hangup the call.
  224. 8. The dictionary size of V42bis has dynamically changed according to
  225.    receiving XID parameter.
